Note From The Founder

The story behind the creation of our Alki was to craft the sleekest possible Chelsea boot without pushing the design too far. At the time, I wasn't drawn to the "chunky" Chelsea boot styles that were prevalent, often featuring overly round lasts. This led me to design our NGT last -- specifically with the Alki in mind.

The challenge with a Chelsea boot is how to make it distinct, given that its primary characteristic is the elastic gore. To address this, I centered the design around the gore itself, envisioning a shape reminiscent of the base of a Coca-Cola glass bottle, a departure from the typical U-shape. I also opted for rounded top line pieces around the gore, an area often left flat in other designs, and constructed the boot as a whole cut.

These design choices ultimately allowed me to give the Alki a unique and more streamlined aesthetic compared to the average welted Chelsea boot.

Wholecut Chelsea Boots

A wholecut chelsea means that the entire boot is constructed from a single piece of leather. This is is a challenging and costly--and therefore very rare--method of construction. It ensures the highest level of comfort and quality. The resulting pattern, uninterrupted by side seams, makes for a boot just that much more handsome than your standard chelsea style.

NGT Last

The NGT is our smart-round last. Its slender silhouette and elongated toe box result in a classic, elegant style.
The NGT is one of our more refined fitting lasts, and is, therefore, more suited for narrow to medium-width feet:

-Narrower/shallower forefoot
-Less voluminous (but not “low”) instep
-Hugging arch area
-Elongated shape
-Not good for wide feet
-Fits more generously on boots than on shoes

Leather Sole (Closed Channel)

Double leather soles give this style a robust look and feel, while remaining supremely comfortable. Tastefully pitched heels, beveled waists, and closed-channel stitching all ensure an elegant look, while seven brass nails in the toe improve longevity.

size guidance

The Alki on the NGT last is a form-fitting Chelsea boot. It has a slender feel with an elongated last that should grip you in all of the right places. Most people stick with the normal size, but if you find yourself on the wide side, you might desire a half size up. Bear in mind, a wholecut Chelsea boot forms quickly to your feet and gives where snug.

Please note that on a boot with no laces, it is normal to feel heel movement, even with a perfect fit.

A truly sleek Chelsea

My fourth pair of shoes from J. Fitzpatrick, these Chelsea’s in black calf are truly exceptional.

I’ve been in the lookout for a a sleek, dressier Chelsea for some time as I find many are just too heavy looking. Not the case with the Alki. The whole cut nature of the shoe means there’s no side seam. The Coke bottle inspired elastic gore gives it a distinctive detail alongside finishing touches such as the seven nails in the sole. The leather is buttery soft. The whole construction is a tribute to considered craftsmanship. JF shoes never disappoint!

Great boots

Excellent boots of great quality. Especially the packaging made me feel I received a luxury item. Moreover, the sleek design offers a sense of elegance to which not many similar boots can compare.
